Yaroslava is tireless in her efforts to please us and today was no exception. Before we met and were only corresponding via email, I shared that I am a yoga teacher, and that yoga is my passion. After knowing this, she arranged for me to attend a yoga class at a local fitness gym in Minchurinsk. Svetlana is a physical education teacher who moonlights evenings as a yoga teacher--gee, does that sound familiar? The class was one hour long, and Svetlana taught it. She spoke in Russian, and she also used the Sanskrit words that all yoga poses share. Without knowing much Russian, I immediately fell into the flow of practice. After the first 30 minutes, Svetlana graciously stepped aside and allowed me to lead the class. Using some English and some Sanskrit, I was able to teach yoga! What an amazing, enlightening experience. After Savasana, and Namaste, we spoke to the students. Both Svetlana and her students understand the Sanskrit asanas, and at the same time, as we explained it to Yaroslava..."we speak the same language!"
Yoga has always been a magical thing for me. it grounds me, centers me, and brings me home. Never has this been more true than tonight when I was able to share a practice with like-minded, strong beautiful yogis from halfway around the world. It is indeed true. Yoga is a universal language that unites us.
Shanti Om. Namaste.
